Not enough toilets....too many toilets.

In reality work has been underway for 2 months now but I've just moved down so the storytelling w/ pictures is only beginning.  I'll recap the toilet situation of the last 2+ months.

The story begins with two ordinary toilets, probably installed in the 70's.

The original hall toilet:

A nice enough toilet but I'm not a big fan of a wooden seat (no offense to the fans of the wooden toilet seat), I like my toilet seats non-descript and the same color as the toilet (my preferred color for a toilet is white....).  The toilet seat doesn't have to be new to me (I hadn't realized this was an issue for some people until just weeks ago...) just not fake wood and the same color as the toilet.

The original toilet in the master:

This toilet was fine, used toilet seat notwithstanding, it however, met an untimely end; but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Those of you who are familiar with RB's work know that he loves demolition.  Putting things back together is ok, but the real fun is in tearing things out.  So work began in the hall bathroom.  This was my suggestion and in hindsight perhaps we should have started in the master but nonetheless, work began in early November in the hall bathroom.  The toilet of course had to go and was removed, whereupon, RB discovered that the toilet had been leaking under the vinyl flooring and there was quite a bit of mold.  Not a long term issue since the house is on a slab but mold is mold and it is gross not to mention unhealthy.  So RB decides that if there was mold under that toilet, there was probably mold under the other toilet as well.  So by the evening of November 2, he had confirmed that both toilets had in fact been leaking under the vinyl flooring and that in both cases there was some mold between the slab and flooring and when he went to bed that evening, both toilets had been removed, along with the vanity in the hall bathroom and the flooring in both bathrooms.  Good thing I had returned to Franklin because if you're clever, you've figured out that this left RB with 0 working toilets.   We had purchased a new toilet for the hall bathroom while I was in Savannah for the weekend but he was missing an essential part to actually install the new working toilet and thus was without.  I'll leave his solution to this problem to your imagination, the details of this week aren't fit to be blogged.

Skipping ahead a week or so, RB ripped out the rest of the hall bathroom (tile surround, vanity and drywall) and installed the new toilet in a shell of a room.  This was now the only working toilet and it was not for the modest b/c the bathroom door was also removed in the process (it will go back on but was moved to a safer location for the duration of the work).

A lone little toilet (but it works!):

Sometime in the month that follows, the perfectly fine toilet (which was going to be reused) from the master bath was knocked over and while it didn't shatter, it did develop a hairline crack.  RB tried salvaging the tank from the hall toilet but to no avail, this toilet was headed for the dump as well (but not without first making a stop in the shower for a week or so...)

A toilet for the shower:

I have to say, there's nothing more refreshing than showering with an old toilet....

Since the old master toilet could not be reused, we had to go and purchase another toilet which I insisted be installed upon my arrival a week and a half ago.  Unfortunately for me, I wasn't very specific and it was installed as a "boys only" toilet (notice the lack of seat...wooden or otherwise).

And just when you think there's not another spot for a toilet.....

A toilet in the hall:

More on this in my next post (how's that for a cliffhanger ending....)
